Liam Harte, founder of Rephobia

Building a clinician-controlled virtual reality platform with evidence, responsible facilitation and real-world delivery treated as core product work.

Liam Harte speaking as founder of Rephobia

From lived experience to a governed product

Liam founded Rephobia after living with OCD and a severe fear of public speaking. The venture is developing a clinician-controlled virtual reality platform to support exposure therapy, with the therapist or responsible professional remaining in control of the experience.

As founder, Liam's work spans product direction, immersive content, clinical and academic relationships, research planning, grants, partnerships and venture strategy. Rephobia was founded in 2024 and has developed through Queen's University Belfast's entrepreneurship ecosystem.

The product remains in development. Public descriptions on this page do not claim clinical effectiveness or regulatory approval.

Technology in service of responsible care

01

Clinician control

The system is designed around professional oversight rather than unattended consumer treatment.

02

Evidence before claims

Research, publication and regulatory preparation are treated as development work, not marketing decoration.

03

Human agency

Immersion should help people approach difficult situations without obscuring who is responsible for the experience.
